HHCPC

Cancer Prevention & Screening

HHCPC is committed to reducing cancer disparities in the Hmong community through education, community partnerships, research, and culturally responsive outreach. We work closely with healthcare organizations to increase awareness of cancer prevention, promote early detection, and improve access to life-saving screenings.

  • In November 2025, Dr. Yang presented on the five most common cancers affecting women through a health equity lens at the Masonic Cancer Free Futures event, where community members also received colon cancer screening education and learned from experts about cancer prevention.
  • In February 2026, Dr. Yang presented at the Minnesota Cancer Alliance Summit at the University of Minnesota on community-based, culturally informed approaches to improving cancer screening.
  • Dr. Yang also serves as a cultural and primary care advisor to the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center's Community Outreach and Engagement Team, helping improve colorectal cancer screening and outreach within the Hmong community.

HHCPC also partners with the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and M Health Fairview to promote HPV education and vaccination. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading cause of cervical cancer, and increasing vaccination rates is one of the most effective ways to prevent this disease. To help families make informed decisions, educational resources are available in both English and Hmong at hmonghpv.com.
